Last week review

Here is my catch up post for some of the things we did last week.

First, Jackson and I spent the night with Grammy on Tuesday. Grandpa goes out of town a lot and Grammy gets lonely. So, the cubby and I came to keep her company. We are loud, messy company. But Grammy didn’t mind. Jackson went through the kitchen cabinets and pulled out the napkins.  Jackson made himself right at home.

Here he is now.

I can’t believe how much he has grown just since November. I was holding him up in the first picture and now he is running around.

On Thursday we met Mimi at the outlet mall in Calhoun, then she came home with us  and spent the night.

Friday Mimi and I took Jackson to the GA Aquarium. Neither of us had been there before. We really picked the wrong day to go. It was the last day of Spring Break and it was cloudy. I think everyone in GA and AL decided to go to the Aquarium. People were being so rude! I only got a few pictures and the quality isn’t great.

Despite the look on his face, I think Jackson had a good time.  He got a lesson in the birds and the bees that I was not prepared for with the beluga whales. We did not stay at that part very long.

Daddy had a fun weekend with Jackson while I was at work. Daddy said Jackson ate really well, that he was amazed at how much he was eating. Daddy took these pictures of Jackson eating spaghetti.

Jackson and Daddy had some good father/son bonding time. Daddy said that Jackson kept coming up to him and giving him a hug and was more clingy to him.

Week #3

This week I gained 1.2 pounds.  They say at the meetings that if your honest with yourself you know why you gained. I’m trying to do that. Maybe I was getting to confident in my weight loss. I did stay with in my points for each day, but maybe I didn’t make the best food choices. I have needed to go grocery shopping, my least favorite thing to do.  I guess when I don’t have healthy options in the house I fall back into my old ways and choose poorly.  And I haven’t been walking.

So, this is a new week. I WILL do better. The weather is nicer. So,  I have no excuse for not getting outside to walk. I will go shopping and have good choices in the house.

Grammy did better than mommy. Not much, but at least she didn’t gain. She stayed exactly the same. (Love you Grammy, just keeping you honest)

Not April Fools

This was supposed to be a recipe post.

There were supposed to be cute pictures of Jackson making cookies with Mommy.

There was supposed to be a picture of yummy looking cookies. Maybe even a picture of Jackson eating a yummy cookie.

This is what we have instead:

Another allergic reaction. It was actually much worse than it looks in the pictures.

Yesterday Daddy mentioned he would like some oatmeal cookies. I had an egg free oatmeal cookie recipe I wanted to try, so I thought I would make them today. We don’t really give Jackson sweets, partly because we try to give him healthy foods and partly because everything has egg in it. I didn’t think it was fair to him for us to eat yummy cookies and not be able to give him some too. So, I found this recipe.

While making the cookies I let Jackson stand on a chair at the counter to help. He was more interested in playing with the bowls and measuring cups. After I used up the last of the vanilla, he wanted to play with the bottle, which of course ended up in his mouth. I didn’t think anything of it because I was right there and the cover was on tightly. He got antsy so I let him down. After I got the first batch on the cookies sheets I went and changed his diaper and noticed a red spot on the side of his mouth. I still didn’t think anything of it. I went back in the kitchen and made another pan of cookies. I was gone maybe 5 minutes. Something told me to go check on Jackson. So, I went back in the living room. His whole neck, mouth, face and chest were covered in hives and he was clawing himself to death. I immediately grabbed the bottle of Benadryl. This is what Daddy walked into when he came home from work.  We tried not to panic this time, even though the hives were much worse this time. We gave the Benadryl time to work and put socks on Jackson’s hands so he couldn’t scratch himself.  He didn’t have any difficulty breathing and his lips and tongue were not swollen. Eventually the hives did get better. He even ate a decent dinner.  When I put him to bed they were almost gone.

At first we thought he must be allergic to the vanilla. But, after Grammy suggested there might have been egg on the vanilla bottle, I think that is more likely. Now I want to scrub down everything in the kitchen. I feel so stupid for not being more careful.  My poor cubby was miserable and it was my fault.

We are so thankful that Jackson is ok.  It could have been a lot worse.  Thank God it wasn’t.

At any rate, the cookies were yummy. It was not my proudest moment when I realized there were no eggs in the batter, so it was ok to eat. At least I had a good chunk of points left for the day.

Week #2

This week was really good! I lost 3.4 pounds! That brings my total to 5.8 pounds. I got a sticker for 5 lbs at the Weight Watchers meeting too! I wasn’t too sure if I would do good this week because we ate out alot and it was Matt’s birthday. Also, since the weather has not been as nice, I haven’t been walking. The biggest thing that has worked for me this week was to keep tracking my points. Even when I didn’t want to or it was too hard to figure out when we ate out or I thought I was bad and ate too much (like the chocolate cheesecake) I kept on tracking. I think seeing it on paper (or the screen since I track online) made me stop before I really went too far and totally binged.

Grammy did great this week too! She reached her 5 lb mark and got a sticker too! Not bad for our 2nd week!

Let’s keep up the good work Grammy! We can do it!

By the drool on his chinny chin chin

Today Jackson had another weight check at the doctors office.  If he didn’t gain weight today, the doctor was going to start running tests. Well, Jackson just scraped by. He gained a few ounces, he was 18 pounds 1.5 ounces and 28 1/4 inches.  Dr. Jennie was pleased with that, she said she didn’t expect him to gain a lot, she was just looking for a gain.  We were really worried he would not have gained because he has barely been eating the last 2 weeks. All he has been doing is drinking his milk and maybe eating a few bites of food. But, Monday he started eating good again. Dr. Jennie was glad he could gain even if he didn’t eat good. (My secret confession is I was putting a bit of heavy cream in his milk :p I did ask and Dr. Jennie said that was ok to do.) So, no testing for now. I asked if we should see a gastroenterologist or endocrinologist anyway. She said if I wanted to it was fine, but she was happy. I have already talked to a few doctors at work, but I guess we will hold off for now. Dr. Jennie said she has seen lots of kids turn around at this age and catch up. So, we are hoping that will happen with Jackson. I have to remember I see the worst cases at work and the doctor sees normal kids. So, I have to trust that she knows what to do.   We go in one month for another check.  Keep up the good work Jackson! Mommy knows you can eat!

Bad to the bone

Part of our bedtime routine every night is a bath for Jackson.  Part of our routine is also me yelling for Daddy to come hold Jackson’s hands so he doesn’t stick his fingers in his butt cream. Poor little cubby has an itchy booty and loves to scratch. (Sorry future Jackson, it’s true.) Tonight Daddy brought an old birthday card he found to distract Jackson.  It’s one of those cards that plays music when you open it. This card plays “Bad to the bone”. Jackson was ENTHRALLED by this card.

jjcbad2

He just kept staring at it with his mouth open.

jjcbad1

(Excuse the fingerprints on the wall. Someone likes to wiggle and try to get away when his diaper is changed. I didn’t realize how messy the wall is. I promise it’s not “mess'”, just fingerprints!)

jjcbad3

He even brought the card downstairs with him and just walked around and around with the card playing. It was so funny. Sometimes he would stop and dance a bit, then walk around again.

These are some bunny ears Mimi brought Jackson last time she came over.

jjcbunny

Amazingly they stayed on his head for more than 1/2 a second.

I also have to say “Happy Birthday Daddy”!!  The cubby and I love you so much!

We had lunch at a local Irish pub so Daddy could get his favorite Irish Breakfast. Then we went to a bakery and Daddy picked out a dessert since I didn’t make him a cake. He picked a HUGE piece of chocolate cheesecake.  I did let myself eat some of it with him. It was soo good!

Ohh! I got Matthew the best birthday present. I gave it to him Friday when we all went out for his birthday dinner. Matt loves Jimmy Buffet, but has never been to a concert. I even had a Jimmy Buffet party for his 30th birthday.  Every year I have tried to get him tickets, but they always sold out too fast. Not this year though! I GOT THEM! So, we will be going in May!

Tip Top Thursday

Good news for my first week of Weight Watchers! I lost 2.4 lbs! It has been really hard this week keeping track of my points, but I think that is key to me losing weight. I don’t think I realized how much all those little bites I take off of Jackson’s tray add up. I had to stop myself from eating his food many times.

We also have been walking just about every day. Jackson and I have even met Daddy after work a couple of days at a nearby park with great walking trails. It’s a great opportunity for us to spend time together as a family (which is rare these days) and get some exercise. We usually walk 1.5 miles, which is one loop around, but we hope to do 2 loops around soon. It’s just hard to when I have to get home to get dinner ready and be able to eat at a decent time.

Not bad for the first week. Hopefully we have made some good changes.

I have to give a shout out to Grammy! She lost 3.6 lbs this week! Go Grammy!
