Week #4

I had a good week. I lost 2.6 pounds! I guess that makes up for last week.

Now that I have been on Weight Watchers for 4 weeks, I think the biggest thing I have learned and am still working on is portion size. Even thought I may not always make the best food choices, I am careful about how much I eat. I’m still hungry a lot of the time, but I don’t go running for the cookies anymore.

This week too I really feel like I can reach my goal. I realized that every week is closer to where I want to be. I am so thankful too for the support of my family and the encouragement of knowing that my friends (Alison and Emily) are right along with me. It’s nice too that people are starting to notice.

At work about the same time I started WW, a few of the girls started a weight loss competition to get ready for summer and I joined along thinking it would be fun, but not expecting to win. But guess what, I’m winning so far! It was easy for them to laugh at me when I gained a bunch of weight but now they aren’t so happy that I am losing it. It really makes my competitive streak come out and want to kick their butts!

Grammy had a loss this week too! Keep up the good work! You CAN do it!

A whole new world to explore

Today I bought him his first pair of big boy shoes. We went to the lake after daddy got home from work for Jackson to try them out.  He had so much fun looking at everything and exploring.

Weird baby bird

Last week I gave Jackson blueberries and he loved them. He could not eat enough.  He ate a whole container within a few days. Now he will not touch them. I guess he ate too many and needs a break. His new trick to not eat them is to feed them to Mommy and Daddy.  Monday night at dinner I gave him some with his dinner and he proceeded to put each blueberry in the cupholder on his highchair tray. Then he thought it would be a good idea to throw them on the floor. I have been trying to teach him to give me what he doesn’t want to eat instead of throwing it. He didn’t want to put the blueberries in my hand, he wanted to put them in my mouth. It was really cute. Then Daddy wanted to try. Jackson would hand him a blueberry then take it away. Daddy pretended to cry. Then he acted like a baby bird and Jackson thought it was hilarious and gave the him some blueberries.

Matt said this picture looks like one of those pictures you see of those guys sticking there hand in an alligators mouth. Daddy does have quite a mouth :)

I made Emily's Chicken Caesar Pasta Salad for dinner. It was really yummy.  The only thing I did different was not mix the dressing in. I know Matt would want blue cheese dressing and that way we could keep the leftovers. And I forgot to buy basil and feta, so I didn’t put those in. I used parmesan cheese that I had.  Jackson ate the chicken and pasta and some fruit.

Last week review

Here is my catch up post for some of the things we did last week.

First, Jackson and I spent the night with Grammy on Tuesday. Grandpa goes out of town a lot and Grammy gets lonely. So, the cubby and I came to keep her company. We are loud, messy company. But Grammy didn’t mind. Jackson went through the kitchen cabinets and pulled out the napkins.  Jackson made himself right at home.

Here he is now.

I can’t believe how much he has grown just since November. I was holding him up in the first picture and now he is running around.

Here is Jackson with another moose friend.

On Thursday we met Mimi at the outlet mall in Calhoun, then she came home with us  and spent the night.

Friday Mimi and I took Jackson to the GA Aquarium. Neither of us had been there before. We really picked the wrong day to go. It was the last day of Spring Break and it was cloudy. I think everyone in GA and AL decided to go to the Aquarium. People were being so rude! I only got a few pictures and the quality isn’t great.

Despite the look on his face, I think Jackson had a good time.  He got a lesson in the birds and the bees that I was not prepared for with the beluga whales. We did not stay at that part very long.

Daddy had a fun weekend with Jackson while I was at work. Daddy said Jackson ate really well, that he was amazed at how much he was eating. Daddy took these pictures of Jackson eating spaghetti.

Jackson and Daddy had some good father/son bonding time. Daddy said that Jackson kept coming up to him and giving him a hug and was more clingy to him.

Week #3

This week I gained 1.2 pounds.  They say at the meetings that if your honest with yourself you know why you gained. I’m trying to do that. Maybe I was getting to confident in my weight loss. I did stay with in my points for each day, but maybe I didn’t make the best food choices. I have needed to go grocery shopping, my least favorite thing to do.  I guess when I don’t have healthy options in the house I fall back into my old ways and choose poorly.  And I haven’t been walking.

So, this is a new week. I WILL do better. The weather is nicer. So,  I have no excuse for not getting outside to walk. I will go shopping and have good choices in the house.

Grammy did better than mommy. Not much, but at least she didn’t gain. She stayed exactly the same. (Love you Grammy, just keeping you honest)

Not April Fools

This was supposed to be a recipe post.

There were supposed to be cute pictures of Jackson making cookies with Mommy.

There was supposed to be a picture of yummy looking cookies. Maybe even a picture of Jackson eating a yummy cookie.

This is what we have instead:

Another allergic reaction. It was actually much worse than it looks in the pictures.

Yesterday Daddy mentioned he would like some oatmeal cookies. I had an egg free oatmeal cookie recipe I wanted to try, so I thought I would make them today. We don’t really give Jackson sweets, partly because we try to give him healthy foods and partly because everything has egg in it. I didn’t think it was fair to him for us to eat yummy cookies and not be able to give him some too. So, I found this recipe.

While making the cookies I let Jackson stand on a chair at the counter to help. He was more interested in playing with the bowls and measuring cups. After I used up the last of the vanilla, he wanted to play with the bottle, which of course ended up in his mouth. I didn’t think anything of it because I was right there and the cover was on tightly. He got antsy so I let him down. After I got the first batch on the cookies sheets I went and changed his diaper and noticed a red spot on the side of his mouth. I still didn’t think anything of it. I went back in the kitchen and made another pan of cookies. I was gone maybe 5 minutes. Something told me to go check on Jackson. So, I went back in the living room. His whole neck, mouth, face and chest were covered in hives and he was clawing himself to death. I immediately grabbed the bottle of Benadryl. This is what Daddy walked into when he came home from work.  We tried not to panic this time, even though the hives were much worse this time. We gave the Benadryl time to work and put socks on Jackson’s hands so he couldn’t scratch himself.  He didn’t have any difficulty breathing and his lips and tongue were not swollen. Eventually the hives did get better. He even ate a decent dinner.  When I put him to bed they were almost gone.

At first we thought he must be allergic to the vanilla. But, after Grammy suggested there might have been egg on the vanilla bottle, I think that is more likely. Now I want to scrub down everything in the kitchen. I feel so stupid for not being more careful.  My poor cubby was miserable and it was my fault.

We are so thankful that Jackson is ok.  It could have been a lot worse.  Thank God it wasn’t.

At any rate, the cookies were yummy. It was not my proudest moment when I realized there were no eggs in the batter, so it was ok to eat. At least I had a good chunk of points left for the day.

Week #2

This week was really good! I lost 3.4 pounds! That brings my total to 5.8 pounds. I got a sticker for 5 lbs at the Weight Watchers meeting too! I wasn’t too sure if I would do good this week because we ate out alot and it was Matt’s birthday. Also, since the weather has not been as nice, I haven’t been walking. The biggest thing that has worked for me this week was to keep tracking my points. Even when I didn’t want to or it was too hard to figure out when we ate out or I thought I was bad and ate too much (like the chocolate cheesecake) I kept on tracking. I think seeing it on paper (or the screen since I track online) made me stop before I really went too far and totally binged.

Grammy did great this week too! She reached her 5 lb mark and got a sticker too! Not bad for our 2nd week!

Let’s keep up the good work Grammy! We can do it!
